The results of Gallup's State of the Global Workplace Report show that the vast majority of our employees is not engaged.
Gallup is an American analytics and advisory company and for this report, they asked employees worldwide a set of standard questions They use three different engagement groups and the key results are that we have 15% of engaged employees. So these people are very motivated highly involved in their work and workplace. They drive performance and innovation, and move the organization forward.
Then we have the second group, our employees that are not engaged. These people are mentally unattached to their work and company. They are just indifferent about their work and will put time — but no energy or passion — into their role. Most of our employees - 70% - belong to this group.
The rest - 15% - are actively disengaged employees. These employees are unhappy at work and every day, these workers potentially undermine what their engaged coworkers accomplish. Of course these are potentially dangerous for the companies success.
So when we look at these numbers, we realize that only 15% of our employees are engaged, while 85% are not engaged.
And obviously, this is a huge economic problem, as companies waste a lot of potential. And in my opinion, this is also a humanistic problem, as many of us obviously spend a lot of time at a place they don’t really like and they don’t feel connected to.
This cannot be the corporate world we want to live in.
So when talking about higher performances and better outcomes, managers should start focusing more on their workforce. And this is all about leadership. And I believe - and so does Gallup - that we can change a lot of this by using Agile Leadership techniques.
